Social
The first people to settle in India was harappans. The two major cites were Harappa and mohenjo-daro. They were the largest of them all with a population of 350,000 people. A person born into a caste system can never live that caste system. The caste had rules for every part of life. It had on for marriage, work, friendship. The grandparents, parents, children all lived in the same house. The oldest living member was the head of the house. The caste system was first Bhramin priests and academics, Kshatriya warriors and kings, vaishya merchants and landowners, Sudra commoners, peasants, servants, and last were the untouchables they were not even a part of the caste system they were outcastes, street sweepers latrine cleaners. The men had more rights then the wome. Only the men went to school or become priests. Young men went to school and were taught by I guru. The marriages were chose by the parents and divorce was not allowed. They people of India were working hard in the rule of the mauryan dynasty with creating new ideas.

India had small kingdoms. Until Chandra Gupta maurya made a strong army. He made a the first empire. It was called the Mauryan dynasty. He set up a organized government. His grandson one of the greatest ruler India has ever seen. He fought one big bloody battle. He decided after that to become Buddhist. After he died the empire fell. After the fall of The mauryan dynasty. A man named Chandra Gupta rose from the Ganges river. He founded the Gupta dynasty. He ruled from the old capital. After he died his son took over samudra gupta he opened up new trade routes and controlled new areas.

Religious
People that believed in Hinduism. Believed that there was a great spirt named Brahman. They also believed in some gods are part of the Brahman. They also believed that a person's soul would reach Brahman. To do that you would have to go through many different lives this was called reincarnation. If you have good darma you will have good karma and you will be put in a better class system then before your other life. Buddisum is the religion created by Siddhartha Gautama. He one day left his palace and looked around and saw people suffering. He left his family and lived alone. He meditated under a tree and came to the meaning of life. He became the enlightened one or as people called him Buddha. They meditated so they could reach nirvana. The Buddha made these laws called the eight- fold trap. Jainism believed just like Buddhist people to not want worldly things. They also believed that you could not harm any living creature.

There are monsoons in India one in the summer and one in the winter. The winter monsoon blows in cold, dry air from the mountains. The summer one blows in warm, wet air from the Arabian Sea. Summer monsoons bring in rain to fertilize the crops.
